<p>This family farm, (run by sixth-generation Herts farmer Ian and his wife, Toronto-born and pumpkin obsessed Gilly), hosts a number of seasonal pop-up events throughout the year and right now, pumpkin season is now in full swing. It&#8217;s great for littlies as they can have free rein to roam around the 12-acre patch, or ride around in a wheelbarrow (cute!), which you can use if you&#8217;re collecting more than you can carry. Grab a hotdog to fuel up and get picking! It&#8217;s open from <strong>20 &#8211; 31 October</strong>, and you&#8217;ll need to book your hour-long slot in advance. Tickets are £5.95 per person (under 2s go free).  </p>

<p>As part of Mead Open Farm&#8217;s Freaky Funfest, which runs throughout Half Term (<strong>26 Oct &#8211; 3 Nov</strong>) you can PYO pumpkin for FREE to carve at home. There&#8217;ll also be a freaky flamenco fiesta circus, three spooktacular haunts, including Horrid High, Scary Tales and a maze, as well as a Halloween Hunt, so you can make a day of it with the kids. <p>This popular Potten End farm shop near Berkhamsted usually has some cool displays including scarecrow characters and spooky sights, plus tonnes of pumpkins in all shapes, sizes and colours &#8211; watch this space (their <a href="https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100068939054909" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Facebook page</a>!) for info on opening times.  Entry is free and there&#8217;s no booking required, just pay for your pickings. </p>

<p>Pick and choose your pumpkins on this 5-acre plot at a secret farm location in Moggerhanger. There are loads of different varieties of pumpkin and squash to pick, as well as a straw maze, pumpkin canon, mini tractors, a spooky beach, Go Karting, climbing activities, trails and space hoppers to enjoy, too. There&#8217;ll also be some extra paid-for activities including laser tag, tractor barrel rides and face painting. Food and drink will also be on offer, from burgers to hog roast and veggie options, as well as a licensed bar. Open <strong>every Sat and Sun until Halloween, plus Mon 28 and Thurs 31 Oct</strong>. Tickets £3.50 (under 3s are free), then pumpkins cost from £1 to £10 each.  </p>

<p>This Peter Rabbit themed farm, near St Albans is holding its annual Pumpkin Festival from on <strong>19, 20 and 25 Oct &#8211; 1 November</strong>, with a picking patch, pumpkin hunt, gourd grotto, funfair rides, and a new Halloween maze for this year, as well as the usual programme of animal-based shenanigans. Tickets from £19.95 per person (online price. Under 2s free) including all shows and activities and one free pumpkin per paying child. </p>

<p>Spook-fest is back this year from <strong>12 Oct &#8211; 3 Nov</strong>, with the Aldenham Mausoleum, spooky shack, spider maze, spooky-oke, pop-up shows and pumpkin bingo, as well as the chance to meet the farm animals. You&#8217;ll need to buy an entry ticket for £6.95, then it&#8217;s an extra £4.75 to pick and carve a pumpkin, and £3.50 for a horrid hay tractor ride. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><a href="https://www.facebook.com/DaneEndXmasTrees/?locale=en_GB" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dane End Farm</a>, Ware</h2>



<p>You may know this one for its Christmas trees but they&#8217;re also doing a PYO pumpkin patch on <strong>8 &#8211; 31 October</strong>. There&#8217;ll be spooky scenes, a Halloween Maze and a café, so you can warm up with a hot choccy before grabbing a wheelbarrow and filling it up with squashes of all shapes and sizes. There&#8217;s no need to book and no booking fee for this one &#8211; just pay for what you take home, according to size. </p>

<p>Whilst you may have visited in the summer months to pick armfuls of fragrant lavender, this time of year is all about pumpkins and the dedicated patch is open from <strong>19 &#8211; 31 October</strong>. There&#8217;ll be props and backdrops for those Insta moments, street food and hot drinks, plus it&#8217;s dog friendly. Book in advance to secure an entry slot and you can stay until it closes at 5pm. £4 per person (under 2s go free), pumpkins cost extra. </p>

<p>Just on the Herts/Essex border Hatter&#8217;s Farm has thousands of orange orbs ripe for the picking &#8211; 75 varieties in fact! There&#8217;ll also be props including a giant welly boot and a 1956 Morris Minor, and a hay bale maze, plus a pumpkin canon, maize maze and face painting for an additional charge.  It&#8217;s open on <strong>19 &#8211; 20 then 23 &#8211; 31 Oct</strong> (tickets £3). Plus Pumpkin Nights invites you to pick yours by moonlight (bring a torch), and brave the Hatter&#8217;s Mad House &#8211; a spooky clown-themed walkway with live actors (ready to make you jump), plus entertainment from local musicians, and a festoon-lit courtyard (select dates from <strong>19 &#8211; 31 Oct</strong>, tickets £7)</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-grove-farm-ivinghoe"><strong><a href="https://www.grovefarmpyo.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Grove Farm</a></strong>, Ivinghoe</h2>



<p>Get stocked up with all your autumnal fruit and veg, from carrots and greens to blackberries and beetroot and (of course) pumpkins at <a aria-label="this PYO farm in Ivinghoe (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.grovefarmpyo.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">this PYO farm in Ivinghoe</a>. There&#8217;s no entry fee, just pay for what you pick and for your packaging, or bring your own containers (and have them weighed as you go in and deducted from your haul) and they&#8217;ll donate up to 20p per piece to charity. </p>
