<p>Based in a converted barn at Carpenters Nursery and Hertfordshire&#8217;s oldest Farmshop, in Sandridge just outside St Albans, The Potting Shed must offer some of the best views in the county. Dine out on the terrace overlooking wildflower meadows and landscaped gardens in sunny weather or look out through the bi-fold doors at the countyside expanse as you enjoy your food. Many of the dishes are created from seasonal, home-grown produce &#8211; from eggs every way to stunning salads and duck waffle as well as a kids&#8217; menu. You&#8217;ll need to reserve a table (it&#8217;s that popular!) and there are dog-friendly areas too &#8211; just mention that you&#8217;ll be bringing pooch when you book.</p>

The outdoor terrace and picnic benches are perfectly placed for soaking up the stunning view of the lake (and the swimmers).</p>

<p>This Waltham Cross beauty boasts a bright and spacious café and superb parkland views. The menu is fulsome with sarnies, pizzas and baked potatoes and on sunny days the ice cream counter serves up 10 delicious flavours. After exploring the trails, maze and formal gardens the outside terrace (with shady parasols) is an ideal spot to kick back and relax with family, friends and your four-legged friend too. (Yes, there&#8217;s even a menu for your pup).</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re after a rural setting, head to this lovely café on the outskirts of Great Amwell in Hertfordshire. Surrounded by woodland, it boasts indoor and outdoor seating and a great play area for the kids. The menu ranges from breakfast bagels to hearty sandwiches plus homemade cakes and tasty treats for little ones. They also do afternoon tea which you&#8217;ll need to book in advance.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s a new one. The Riverside Café at Clophill Lakes opened this month and is located in a beautifully tranquil nature reserve. Packed with wildlife and the remains of a Norman castle the café setting is pretty much idyllic. With light snacks and barista coffee on the menu, it&#8217;s a great spot to unwind and watch the birds and butterflies. Bonus points if you spot an otter frolicking in the water. &nbsp;</p>
