What is it about the unstoppable rise of Christmas wreath-making? Our local towns and villages go absolutely mad for them with almost every door adorned with festive foliage by mid-November.
If you fancy having a crack at creating your own, we aren’t short of workshops in Herts & Beds with lots springing up over the next few weeks (some come with a free festive tipple btw!) But be quick to book as tickets are selling like hot mince pies. Secateurs at the ready, let’s go!
Perfect Moment Florists, St Albans and Welwyn, 3, 5 , 6 and 12 Dec
Decorate a lovely pine door ring with your choice of decorations, so you can theme it to match your style. Workshops are held at St Albans and Welwyn so check before you book. Oh and mice pies and mulled wine are thrown in too!
Forever Green, Nettleden, 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21 December
Florist Nicky Pritchard’s Winter Workshops are huuugegly popular, not least because she runs them from the garden studio at her lovely home, October Cottage (how gorgeous does that sound already?) in Nettleden in the Chiltern Hills. She can take up to six in a group so if you’re hoping to bring a friend book quickly!

This one’s a bit different – you’ll make a wreath out of scraps of fabric rather than foliage, led by crochet and craft expert, Sam. The best part is you’ll be able to re-use it year after year. The frame, fabric and decs are all included in the price as well as a glass of mulled wine.
HRC, Hertford, 28 Nov, 2, 7 and 12 Dec
Learn how to make and tailor your fresh wreath to your personal colour scheme at these 3-hour courses at Hertford Regional College. They’re taking place at the Broxbourne Campus (2 Dec) and the Ware Campus (28 Nov, 7 and 12 Dec), plus you can combine them with a candle arrangement course for a discount (£60 for both).
The Flower School, St Albans, 7 Dec
Held at the Memorial Hall on Branch Rd (no pun intended!) there’ll be seasonal refreshments provided and £5 from the workshop cost will be donated to Motor Neurone Disease Association, so you can start the season of goodwill off as you mean to go on.

This one involves a full day of festive fun, with coffee, gluhwein, lunch, fizz, and afternoon tea included (as well as materials and tuition for making your beautiful door adornment). There are also three half-day workshops where you can make table decorations on 13, 14 and 21 Dec.
Spinney Cottage Flowers, St Albans, 28-30 Nov, 2-7 Dec
Discover the tricks of the trade from this bespoke wedding florist as you create a wreath from blue spruce, eucalyptus, berried ivy and other seasonal foliage. Then you can decorate it with everything from dried fruits, to hydrangeas and cinnamon sticks. Come for a morning or afternoon (with tea/coffee and cake included) or a full day which includes a Prosecco lunch and a table centre workshop too.

Mudlarks Craft Cabin, Hertford, 8 Dec
Mudlarks is a lovely charitable enterprise which runs a café and allotment to support adults with learning disabilities and mental health issues. This cute eco friendly workshop will be held in the allotment cabin (bring your woolies and boots!) with all proceeds going back into the charity pot.
Artshed Arts, Ware, 1 Dec
Colette from Scarlet Rose Wreaths will run this luxury wreath workshop, teaching you all of her top tips for making your own stylish door decoration. Use the adornments provided or bring your own. And if you don’t make it to the workshop, you can buy one of Colette’s wreaths at St Albans Market throughout November and December.
Shimmering Studio, Peter’s Green, 18 Dec
Tutor Jackie Sharp will take you step-by-step through the process of making a wreath from scratch (as you sip mulled wine and munch on mince pies), using a wire ring, moss and a selection of seasonal spruce, natural materials and foliage. Hand-pick your decorations from dried fruits, cones to berries to feathers and ribbons. You will also pick up some creative tips about how to decorate your home with festive touches.

This bijoux florist specialises in growing old fashioned varieties and well-known seasonal blooms – all in their own field, so they’re always handpicked fresh. This is one of a number of workshops they hold throughout the year and will guide you through the process of making your own unique wreath, using fresh foliage and a selection of embellishments. For 45 quid they’ll throw in some mulled punch and mince pies too!
Rennie Grove Hospice Care, Redbourn, 3 and 9 Dec
Oasis, foliage and ribbons are provided at these two-hour workshops, held at St Mary’s Church Hall, but make sure you bring your own secateurs!
Rhodes Arts Complex, Bishop’s Stortford, 1 Dec
Book by 21 Nov for this one which is held in the complex’s museum. You’ll need your own apron and secateurs, but all other materials are provided. Plus you can even choose an enviromentally friendly compostable base, so you can be green-fingered in more ways than one!

Wedding florist and photography team Polly and Petal are bringing their skills to Coluco in Tring for two wreath making workshops (one fresh, one faux).
